Equipment

  • 9x9 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 16 hot dogs
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • ¼ cup BBQ rub
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x9 baking dish with cooking spray or use aluminum foil baking dish.
  • Combine hot dogs, mustard, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, onion powder, and black pepper in a large resealable bag. Shake bag so hot dogs are well coated with mustard and spice mixture. Spread out seasoned hot dogs onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
  • Remove hot dogs and cut them into thirds. Increase oven temperature to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine hot dog pieces and BBQ sauce in a bowl and mix until hot dogs are completely coated with sauce. Return to the baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for an additional 10 minutes.

Recipe Notes

  • Choose hot dogs with a smoky flavor to add that classic touch of smoke.
  • If you're serving these burnt ends to guests, skip the extra sauce on the side to discourage double-dipping and put a toothpick in each one so they can help themselves.
